American rapper Curtis James Jackson III, who goes by the stage name 50 Cent, is making a docu-series for Netflix that will delve into the allegations of assault and sexual abuse surrounding the controversial music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Alexandria Stapleton will direct the yet-to-be-titled docu-series. According to a Variety report, the series is currently in production.
“This is a story with significant human impact. It is a complex narrative spanning decades, not just the headlines or clips seen so far,” 50 Cent and Stapleton told Variety in a statement.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to give a voice to the voiceless and to present authentic and nuanced perspectives. While the allegations are disturbing, we urge all to remember that Sean Combs’ story is not the full story of hip-hop and its culture. We aim to ensure that individual actions do not overshadow the culture’s broader contributions,” the statement reads further.
50 Cent will executive produce the docu-series through his G-Unit Film & Television banner, along with Stapleton. He first announced the production of the documentary in December 2023 following the revelation of a fourth sexual assault allegation against Combs. The rapper had also announced on X at that time that the profits from his upcoming documentary about Combs would be donated to victims of sexual violence.
Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested in the lobby of a Manhattan hotel on September 16, following multiple allegations of sexual abuse and trafficking. As of August 2024, he had been accused of abusive behaviour in at least nine lawsuits. The 58-year-old musician pleaded not guilty but was denied bail and remains in custody.
On November 16, 2023, Diddy came under intense scrutiny when his ex-girlfriend, Cassie, filed a shocking federal lawsuit accusing him of rape and a decade of abuse, which allegedly began when she was 19. The singer, once signed to Diddy’s label, claimed he maintained complete control over her life, including her apartment, clothing, medical records, and car.
Sean Combs is a prominent musician who ruled the hip-hop scene in the 1990s and 2000s. He is known for launching the careers of artists such as The Notorious B.I.G., Usher, and Mary J. Blige through his record label, Bad Boy Records.
He has used several stage names like Puff Daddy, P Diddy and Diddy over the decades and collaborated with artists like Nelly, Jennifer Lopez, Drake, Lil Kim, Pharrell and The Weeknd.
